Season Show Descriptions

DelbertPhoto_240x140_v2Delbert McClinton
Friday, February 12th

There’s no better way to kick off the spring season than with longtime friend of the Paramount Delbert McClinton. From his start as a harmonica-wielding sideman in the 60s, to the critically acclaimed Delbert & Glen records of the 70s and the 1993 Tanya Tucker duet “Tell Me About It,” the Lubbock native has forged a singular career. Lucky for us, he remains one of the great rock ’n’ roll party starters.

Ruth Reichl
Thursday, February 18th

Bestselling author, food critic, and judge on Bravo’s Top Chef Masters, Ruth Reichl is one of the most recognizable and beloved voices in the culinary world. Most recognizable as a writer and editor, Reichl was the Editor-in-Chief of Gourmet Magazine for ten years until its closing. The host of three Food Network Specials, a ten-episode PBS show, and author of several bestselling memoirs, including the recently released My Kitchen Year: 136 Recipes that Saved My Life, Reichl brings her culinary adventures and anecdotes to the Paramount stage for an enjoyable evening you won’t want to miss.

Event Partner: Edible Austin
Special VIP Tickets – include prime seats in the mezzanine, pre-show Bites from Antonelli’s Cheese Shop, Delysia Chocolatier, Apis Restaurant and Apiary, Snack Bar, and Tiny Pies, complimentary drinks from Lewis Wines plus a mix and mingle with Ruth Reichl.

Shinyribs – 2 SHOWS!
Friday, February 19th

Kevin Russell’s Shinyribs last rocked the State Theatre on New Year’s Eve 2014, and his star has risen considerably since then. The former Gourds frontman released Okra Candy to widespread critical acclaim in 2015, and its single “Baby What’s Wrong?” ruled the local airwaves. Expect a trip through many musical styles, clever and catchy songwriting, and a shot of infectious joy at these intimate gigs. You’ll be dancin’ in the aisles by the time the night is over.

Sonny Landreth
Friday, February 26th

This lean Mississippi native has enjoyed a prolific career for decades, dating back to his solo debut album Blues Attack in 1981. Although that album fanned the flames of his reputation as an emerging force in roots music, Landreth kept a parallel career going as a celebrated sideman and session guitarist. Over the years he performed and recorded with artists like John Hiatt, John Mayall, and Jimmy Buffett. He also collaborated with Eric Clapton, and has performed at all of Clapton’s prestigious Crossroads Guitar Festivals since 2004. Along the way Landreth has continued to develop his vision and his musical voice, combining blues, zydeco, folk, country and jazz.

Randy Newman
Saturday, March 5th

When we landed Randy Newman for a rare Austin performance in 2013, we would have never believed that lightning could strike twice. Call this an encore to that mesmerizing, sold-out show. Undoubtedly one of America’s greatest living songwriters, Newman has built a catalog of timeless songs that combine wit and satire with deep emotion and real heart.

Mavis Staples & Nick Lowe
Sunday, March 6th

The Paramount is proud to welcome back gospel and R&B legend Mavis Staples. The subject of a recent documentary and book, plus a recent Grammy winner for her Jeff Tweedy-produced album You Are Not Alone, Mavis has never been more in demand. At this performance, she is joined by the incomparable Nick Lowe. Lowe has made his mark as a producer (Elvis Costello-Graham Parker-Pretenders-The Damned), songwriter of at least three songs you know by heart, short-lived career as a pop star, and a lengthy term as a musicians’ musician. But in his current ‘second act’ as a silver-haired, tender-hearted but sharp-tongued singer-songwriter, he has no equal.

Jamie Bartlett: The Dark Net
Tuesday, March 22nd

Meet Jamie Bartlett, the author of the best-selling book, The Dark Net about hidden internet subcultures. Bartlett takes us deep into the complex digital underworld and presents an extraordinary look at the internet we don’t know. One that contains trolls, pornographers, drug dealers, hackers, political extremists, Bitcoin programmers, vigilantes and more —putting a human face on those who have many reasons to stay anonymous. Join us for an enlightening evening based on the darkness that lies beneath!

Nicole Curtis
Wednesday, March 23rd

Nicole Curtis is a sweet-talking, hammer-swinging whirlwind. The host of DIY Network’s new series “Rehab Addict,” Nikki restores old houses in Minneapolis and Detroit to their former glory, finding interesting elements in discount stores, flea markets and reuse centers to give each restoration a distinct personality. A passionate advocate for restoration and preservation, what better place to see Nicole Curtis than on the historic Paramount stage?

Special VIP Tickets – include prime seats, access to the pre-show reception with a meet & mingle with Nicole Curtis, plus complimentary appetizers and drinks. You will also receive a Paramount film pass. Steven Wright
Saturday, April 2nd

Past Moontower Comedy Festival favorite, Steven Wright returns on our season for a great evening of humor as only Steven can phrase it! With numerous Comedy Central, HBO and late-night appearance as well as appearance in over a dozen films, Steven’s laid back and monotone delivery of his every day observations makes for a big night of funny and insightfulness. Don’t miss this exclusive and rare stand up appearances.

Jane Goodall
Tuesday, April 5th

In July 1960, at the age of 26, Jane Goodall traveled from England to what is today Tanzania and bravely entered the little-known world of wild chimpanzees. Equipped with nothing more than a notebook and a pair of binoculars, she opened a window into their sometimes strange and often familiar-seeming lives. Today, Goodall’s work revolves around awareness of endangered species, particularly chimpanzees, as well as encouraging people to protect the environment we all share. Join us at the Paramount for an intimate evening with one of the most accomplished environmental humanitarians of our time.

Rita Wilson
Saturday, April 9th

Although Rita Wilson is well-known as an actress (It’s Complicated, Sleepless in Seattle, recurring roles on CBS’: The Good Wife, HBO’s Golden Globe winning series: Girls, recently starring in Larry David’s sold out Broadway hit: Fish In The Dark) as well as a film producer (discovered My Big Fat Greek Wedding, Mamma Mia!), few may be aware that her early show biz ambitions were actually musical. Born and raised in the Hollywood Hills (nearly above the Hollywood Bowl), Wilson harbored dreams of becoming a singer in the ‘60s and ‘70s after falling in love with The Beatles, The Mamas & the Papas, Janis Joplin, and The Supremes, among others. She even took a part-time job as a ticket-taker at what was then the Universal Amphitheatre as a way to see such popular acts of the day as Linda Ronstadt, Joni Mitchell, Carole King, James Taylor, and The Eagles.

Chick Corea & Béla Fleck
Friday, April 15th

Chick Corea & Béla Fleck, two master songwriters, musicians, and band leaders meet in a historic duet of piano and banjo. The Grammy-winning duet will combine Corea and Fleck’s most recognizable tunes with the music from their Latin Grammy-winning album The Enchantment. With a mix of jazz and pop standards, crossing a myriad of genres, from jazz, bluegrass, rock, flamenco and gospel, this will be a casual, intimate evening with two legends from different musical worlds.

Ms. Lisa Fisher & Grand Baton
Thursday, April 28th

By any measure of talent and success, Lisa Fischer is a superstar. She’s spent the last 20 years as a backup singer for the Rolling Stones, Sting, Luther Vandross, Tina Turner and countless others. A Grammy winner with astonishing range and powerhouse vocals, Fischer was featured in the Oscar-winning documentary Twenty Feet from Stardom and now steps into the spotlight with her interpretations of classic songs from across the rock and pop universe.

David Sedaris @ Bass Concert Hall
Wednesday, May 4th

NPR Humorist and Best-selling Author of Me Talk Pretty One Day and When You Are Engulfed in Flames. With sardonic wit and incisive social critiques, David Sedaris has become one of America’s pre-eminent humor writers. The great skill with which he slices through cultural euphemisms and political correctness proves that Sedaris is a master of satire and one of the most observant writers addressing the human condition today.

Graham Nash
Thursday, May 5th

Legendary singer-songwriter Graham Nash is a two-time Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee, a Songwriter’s Hall of Fame member, Grammy Award winner, and Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE). Performing with Shane Fontayne (guitars), Graham is particularly affecting in this stripped-down format, performing hits from his extensive career with the Hollies and Crosby, Stills & Nash. April 2016 marks the release of his new solo record This Path Tonight.
